Mehrnaz: There's no single phrase in Persian that equates to "I'm sorry." Depending on the setting or level of formality, when you feel sorry and ashamed you can say bebakhshid ببخشید or sharmandam شرمنده ام (a spoken form of sharmandeh am شرمنده ام) which literally means "I'm ashamed."
