Eric: Top 25 Persian Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 20: What's the weather like? in Persian
In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Persian learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native speaker. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question What's the weather like in Tehran? In Persian this is
Mehrnaz: هوای تهران چطوره؟
The first word in the question is
Mehrnaz: هوای
Eric: meaning something like ‘weather’ in English.
Mehrnaz: (Slow, by syllable) هوای
Eric: Listen again and repeat.
Mehrnaz: هوای
{Pause}
Eric: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Mehrnaz: تهران
Eric: which is the city name Tehran.
Mehrnaz: (Slow, by syllable) تهران
Eric: Now repeat.
Mehrnaz: تهران

Listen to the the first 2 words of the question and repeat.

meaning something like ‘it's.’

Eric: To expand on the pattern, replace ‘sunny’ with ‘cloudy.’

Eric: Listen to the phrase again, this time with ‘cloudy’

Eric: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace ‘sunny’. Say It's cloudy.

Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting Iran and someone asks you the question ‘What's the weather like in Tehran?’ You want to say it's sunny. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: هوای تهران چطوره؟ (five seconds) آفتابیه.
Eric: Now you want to say it's cloudy. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: هوای تهران چطوره؟ (five seconds) ابریه.
Eric: You want to say it's hot. Answer the speaker's question.
Mehrnaz: هوای تهران چطوره؟ (five seconds) گرمه.
Eric: You want to say it's cold. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: هوای تهران چطوره؟ (five seconds) سرده.
Eric: You want to ask someone what the weather is like. Ask the question
