Eric: Top 25 Persian Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 16: How are you? in Persian
(In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Persian learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native speaker. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.)
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question How are you? In Persian this is
Mehrnaz: چطورین؟
The first word in the question is
Mehrnaz: چطور
Eric: meaning ‘how’ in English.
Mehrnaz: (Slow, by syllable) چطور
Eric: Listen again and repeat.
Mehrnaz: چطور
{Pause}
Eric: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Mehrnaz: ین؟
Eric: meaning something like ‘are you.’
Mehrnaz: (Slow, by syllable) ین؟
Eric: Now repeat.
Mehrnaz: ین؟

Listen to the entire question and repeat.

Eric: Now repeat

meaning something like ‘I'm.’
Mehrnaz: (Slow, by syllable) م.
Eric:Now repeat.

Eric: Listen to the speaker say, I'm fine., and then repeat.
Mehrnaz: خوبم.

Eric: To expand on the pattern, replace ‘fine’ with ‘good.’
Mehrnaz: خوب
Eric: good
Mehrnaz: (slow) خوب (regular) خوب
Eric: Listen to the phrase again, this time with ‘good’
Mehrnaz: خوبم.
Eric: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace ‘fine’. Say ‘I'm good.’

Eric: To make another phrase, replace ‘good’ with ‘great.’

Eric: Imagine you are great. Answer the speaker's question.
Mehrnaz: چطورین؟ (five seconds) عالیم.
Eric: Imagine you're so-so. Respond to the question.
Mehrnaz: چطورین؟ (five seconds) بد نیستم.
Eric: You want to ask someone how they are doing. Ask the question
