| Mehrnaz: When answering the phone some people might also simply pick up and say baleh بله. And these days, with caller ID, since you can see who's calling you - for close friends, beloved ones, and families - Iranians might answer with the word jaanam جانم which literally means "my life” or “my spirit". Also, remember that, although speaking aloud on the phone in public places is not technically illegal, it can still be considered rude, especially if you’re too loud. In some taxis, or doctor's offices, you might see a sign telling you that you can't speak on your cellphone. |
